Nettle – A Green Gift for Allergies & Nourishment
This week, I found myself reaching for a tried-and-true favorite—Nettle—because let me tell you, the pollen count where I live is wild. We’re talking full-on yellow dust coating every surface outdoors. If you know, you know. And while I love spring, my sinuses do not.
So I whipped up a batch of Nourishing Nettle Lemonade, partly because my body was asking for some extra nourishment, and partly because I needed that green magic to help calm the histamine storm happening in my face. Nettle is an herbalist’s best friend when it comes to allergy season—and honestly, it's so much more than that.
Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a deeply nourishing tonic—especially for your kidneys and adrenals. Think of it as a hug from nature when you’re feeling depleted. Herbalist David Winston swears by nettle seed as a restorative for the kidneys, and Finnish herbalist Henriette Kress recommends a spoonful or two in yogurt to boost adrenal energy. I’ve tried that too—it’s earthy, but potent.
And allergies? Nettle is a rockstar here. It acts as a natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory, making it a go-to for hay fever, asthma, and respiratory issues. Indigenous wisdom backs this too—the Cherokee traditionally used nettle for allergies, coughs, and bronchial complaints. There’s even research showing that freeze-dried nettle leaf brings real relief for allergy sufferers. It’s that good.
But nettle doesn’t stop there. It’s a nutritional powerhouse, packed with iron, magnesium, vitamins A and K, and chlorophyll—basically green liquid gold. It's perfect for building blood, calming fatigue, and gently detoxifying the body. Whether you’re sipping an infusion, juicing fresh greens, or tossing it in your food, nettle offers grounding, earthy nourishment that your whole system can feel.
And if you’re navigating postpartum, hormonal shifts, or blood sugar swings, this plant has your back too. It even supports hair growth and lactation, while helping tone tissues and support circulation. Honestly, nettle is like that friend who always shows up when you need her—strong, steady, and nourishing as hell.
So if you’re feeling run-down, sniffly, or just in need of some herbal TLC, consider calling on nettle. Whether in tea, lemonade, or tossed into your dinner, she’s a springtime ally worth keeping close.
🌿 Stay nourished, stay wild.
